BDSwiss Conducts 2021 Blood Donation Camp

LinkedIn +

As part of its ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility, BDSwiss has organised yet another successful blood donation drive in its Limassol headquarters on the 10th of December 2021. The camp saw wide participation from BDSwiss’ employees, associates, friends, and family members who took part in the initiative by donating blood and assisting in organising the event.

The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has put an immense strain on the global healthcare system and has resulted in the near depletion of central blood banks. Due to a number of people being in self-isolation, constant delays in blood donation appointments, and fewer people looking to or being able to donate blood, there is a global shortage of transfusable blood and blood components for the people who need it the most.

At the same time, demand is at dangerously high levels and in fact amongst the highest ever recorded. Patients hospitalised with Covid-19 tend to have low haemoglobin and are thus in greater need of blood transfusions hence further increasing demand, according to the Cyprus Ministry of Health.

Recognising that donating blood to save lives is more important now than ever before, BDSwiss in cooperation with the Cyprus Blood Bank organised a blood donation camp inviting all Cyprus-based employees to participate. The BDSwiss’ 2021 Blood Camp was set up on the 3rd floor of the company’s main building and a team of nurses and paramedics were positioned to screen the donors and ensure that all government guidelines on Covid-19 were followed. A total of 20 blood units were collected from more than 30 eligible participants. All donors were honoured with participation certificates.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility policy, BDSwiss recognises the importance of growing the business in a socially responsible manner that creates positive impacts in the local communities and remains committed to organising annual blood donation drives in order to encourage its employees to donate blood regularly and support those in need.
